Nepalese Honoured with Victoria’s Multicultural Award for Excellence 2012
NAV Advisor Mr Sudhir Shakya has been honoured with Victoria’s Multicultural Award for Excellence: Meritorious Service Awards 2012 for his outstanding contribution to the Nepalese community in Victoria. This is the first time that a Nepalese was honoured with such prestigious award by the Government of Victoria through Victorian Multicultural Commission.
The award was presented by His Excellency the Governor of Victoria the Honourable Alex Chernov AC QC amid a ceremony at the Government House in Melbourne on Tuesday, 18th December 2012 in presence of the Premier of Victorian the Honourable Ted Baillieu and other dignitaries. Representing the Nepalese community, the ceremony was attended by Mr Chandra Yonzon- the Hon. Consul General of Nepal for Victoria, Mr Bom Yonzon – President of NAV, Mr Ranjan Vaidya- Advisor and former President of NAV, Ms Bijaya Budathoki – NAV Secretary and Mr Parsuram Sharma Luitel JP – former NAV advisor.
Mr Chandra Yonzon the Hon. Consul General of Nepal for Victoria said this was a proud moment for Nepal and the all Nepalese community that a Nepalese in Melbourne was honour with such prestigious recognition by the Government of Victoria.
Accepting this award Mr Shakya said that this achievement is an acknowledgment of contributions made by every volunteer who works tirelessly for our community. He said that he was very proud to be the first from the Nepalese background to receive such a prestigious award and that he dedicates this award to our Nepalese community in Victoria and Australia.
Former NAV Executive and the Advisor Mr Parsuram Sharma-Luitel JP, was also honoured with the Service to the Community Award. At the ceremony, Kusum Tamang accepted VMC Ambassador Award on behalf of an organisation PoisE’n Bollypop.
