VICTORIA DONATES MORE FUNDS TO NRNA EARTHQUAKE DISASTER RELIEF FUND
5 May 2016
Coinciding with the first anniversary of the devastating earthquake in Nepal, a cheque amounting A$6,432.46 was handed to NRNA ICC President Dr Shesh Ghale on 2 May 2015, as advised by NAV Immediate Past President Sudhir Shakya. The funds were raised through a musical program in October 2015 by local Victorian Nepalese artists in support of the NRNA Earthquake Appeal, supported by Nepalese Association of Victoria (NAV) and the NRNA Victoria. The cheque was handed to Dr Ghale, on behalf of the organisers, by Mr Shakya and Immediate Past Vice President Surendra Sedhai in Melbourne in presence of NRNA ICC member Mrs Jamuna Gurung. Acknowledging the contribution, Dr Ghale thanked the Victorian Nepalese community and artists for their ongoing support to NRNA reconstruction effort and expressed his optimism on the commencement of the rebuilding initiatives in Nepal. NRNA and Nepal government recently signed an agreement to develop quake‐ravaged Laprak of Gorkha district into an integrated model settlement comprising 1,000 houses.
Mr Ashok Khatiwada, representative of the artist’s group who performed in the musical night thanked NAV for facilitating the funds transfer to NRNA Earthquake Disaster Relief Fund.
